So for this assignment we were looking to better understand how exposure and the depth of field is created using aperture and shutter speed. We had to create a sequence of shots that ranged from extremely under exposed to extremely over exposed.
I made a lot of mistakes on this roll of film but I learned a bunch of lessons about analog photography! The main take away I got from shooting this roll of film is that you have to be extremely intentional with every piece of taking the shot. If you are not intentional you cannot go back and fix it, the image is already done and your final product suffers.
Another key takeaway was the centre dial in the viewfinder and controlling the focus. When thinking about depth of field, especially extreme depth of field, relies on how carefully you use the center point in the viewfinder and making sure that the image is lined up within it. Watching our instructor and how he suggested zooming in to focus was a big help.
The following is the sequence I used for the first range of shots:
-5 = (1/2000) + (F22)
-4 = (1/2000) + (F16)
-3 = (1/1000) + (F16)
-2 = (1/500) + (F16)
-1 = (1/250) + (F11)
0 = (1/250) + (F11)
+1 = (1/125) + (F11)
+2 = (1/60) + (F11)
+3 = (1/30) + (F11)
+4 = (1/15) + (F11)
+5 = (1/8) + (F11)
Here is the resulting image:
I had to restart the first sequence because I accidentally went to the B1 shutter speed which overexposed a shot. I also started the sequence backwards then how I intended. This speaks to the intentionality as I was not taking my time during the first few shots.
