Contact Prints

For assignment four we have to create a number of different prints that adhere to very strict dimensions and other criteria. To make the prints we have to use the enlargers in the darkroom. This was an interesting process because it took a lot of detailed work to ensure you had a great product at the end. Something I learned from this process was that the enlarger works very similar to how my analog camera functions. By changing the aperture you can ruduce the time your shutter needs to be open and are able to lengthen your time needed to expose your paper properly. The below sequences were with the aperture wide open. I think the next few prints will be better.

Contact print / maximum black testing:

 Enlarger #16 B

30 seconds

Enlarger Hight 56 inches

Filter # 2

Lens Apature 2.8

 Enlarger #16 B

3-4 seconds

Enlarger Hight 27 inches

Filter # 2

Lens Apature 2.8

 Enlarger #16 B

2 seconds

Enlarger Hight 27 inches

Filter # 2

Lens Apature 2.8

For the first group of enlarger settings the contact sheet went extremely black right away with the exception of one lighter strip seen on the left.

I started to experiment with the timing on the enlarger and was able to get a pretty consistent black around the 3-4 second mark and with the second set of settings for the enlarger.

Here are the rest of the contact sheets I was able to produce!
